Ignition Wiring

Did you know… SmartOBM is required to be wired to ignition?

While there’s no public regulation, the design of the system and its purpose imply that:

  • The OBM hardware and telematics device must be functional and report mass and vehicle configuration data when the vehicle operates under the permit/scheme.

  • The data (axle-group mass, gross vehicle mass, configuration, plus time/date) is collected and transmitted while the vehicle is operational.

As the OBM unit is powered via a universal 7–30 V DC power connection with voltage protection (meaning it draws from the vehicle’s electrical system rather than an external battery), it is our recommendation that the power is drawn from ignition to ensure that the device is transmitting data to the telematics device while the vehicle is operational.

Important: Airtec does not condone drawing a power supply from a vehicle's EBS, unless approved by the EBS manufacturer!
